UL warns that Pure Run brand shielded cable does not comply with safety standards

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) recently issued a public notice that communications cable bearing the brand name Pure Run by Sewell “may pose a fire hazard.” UL stated that the shielded cable “does not comply with UL’s safety standards and is not authorized to bear the UL mark in the United States or Canada.”
UL’s notice identifies the cable manufacturer as Fenghua Kingsun Co. Ltd and its date of manufacture as April 2015. “The communications cable does not meet the flammability requirements of the safety standard, which may cause an increased risk of fire,” UL added.

The photos on this page came directly from UL’s public notice. The photos show the cable jacket displaying the following description: SEWELL SFTP CAT5E EIA/TIA 568 CMR (UL)E353635 24AWG 4 PAIRS.

A search of UL’s Online Certifications Directory shows that the identification number E353635 is indeed associated with Sewell Development Corp./Sewell Direct. That certification was last updated in July 2015. UL’s public notice about the shielded cable’s potential fire hazard was issued in May 2016.
